About the Author - Professor Erin Bromage

A Comparative Immunologist and Professor of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

When teaching undergraduate courses Dr. Bromage uses current disease examples as a common thread throughout the course. With Covid-19 appearing at the start of the semester, he and his students developed and continue to update a huge notice board of information outside his laboratory, tracking the pathogen’s progression. He also writes a blog to make science accessible to the general public.

    Comments from his readers:

from nickr: Dr. Bromage, has organized the salient data and presented them in flatly rational and digestible terms that simply *make sense* . . . but have until now not seen anywhere on the Internet.

You should not be surprised at the response to your posts about staying safe and what the *actual* numbers are, not the distorted crap that seems to be the pablum being fed to the masses by people with massive agendas or simply massive disinformation.

Based on your posts I can email my friends and family with reassuring information about how (and when) to wear PPE and how not to be freaked out by trips to the grocery store.

    From Edward W. Hackett:
So good to hear from you. I am sure that those of us without a medical background appreciate your clear explanations of what is occurring and what we have to look forward to in the near future.

    Thank you.

From jknousak: Nothing better now -- or ever -- than a doctor of philosophy (aka Ph.D.) of science who can write the science for the Average Jo. Kudos, Professor and Thank you.

From Rhonda Hayes: Thank you for this article Dr. Bromage!! So glad to be able to read about the spread of COVID-19 in layman's terms. I will definitely share this with friends and family.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Microsoft have developed a coronavirus self-test chat-bot called “CLARA.”

CLARA walks you through a series of screening questions designed to tell you whether you should:

    • Rest easy
    • Call a doctor, or
    • Call 911 for an ambulance right away.

The chat-bot can be launched by clicking the “Coronavirus Self-Checker” located at this URL:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html

IMPORTANT NOTE:  This test WILL NOT tell you if you have Coronavirus. It simply helps you know if you should seek medical attention.
