There are several ways that you can participate as a member of the Villages Democratic Club. We offer regular meetings, a Women’s Group, Sunday Discussion Forums, Breakfast With Dems and Love Dem Golfers. We look forward to seeing you soon.
The Villages Democratic Club
The Villages Democratic Club meets on the second Saturday of each month at 9:15 a.m. at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
The general meetings are held in the auditorium area. It is at these meetings that we learn what is going on for Democrats locally and nationally and have an opportunity to meet and hear our Democratic candidates and other prominent people associated with progressive issues.
Since the meetings are often filled to capacity, you are encouraged to arrive early, register, check out the merchandise, visit the numerous activity tables, buy a 50/50 ticket and/or have a cup of coffee or a cookie before the meeting begins. The two rooms near the auditorium are reserved for this purpose.
Also note that the Villages Democratic Club collects food for various area food banks at every meeting. So bring your non-perishable food items.
Check the UPCOMING EVENTS for the next scheduled meeting. You will see reports of previous meetings by selecting the meeting date under Archives.
The Democratic Women’s Club
The Democratic Women’s Club is a local chapter of the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida.
Open to all Democratic women (and men), the club supports Democratic candidates and Democratic legislative issues.
The organization has a strong Democratic presence at Tally Days, in Tallahassee, where we meet with our elected state representatives and challenge them to protect our rights.
The date and topic is the meetings are published on this website.
For more information, contact President, Michelle Sher Newman (Shelly Newman), 352.693.3052 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sunday Discussion Forum
In addition to regular meetings, special topics are presented at the Sunday Forum Series on Sundays at 1:45 p.m. Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
This Sunday Forum Series provides a more intimate setting to meet and discuss the issue of the day. This is an opportunity to delve more deeply into an issue and to voice your opinion.
There is no fixed schedule. However, the date of the Forum and the topic to be discussed will be posted in the UPCOMING EVENTS well ahead of the event.
Breakfast With Dems
Join members of The Villages Democratic Club and other area Democrats from Lake, Marion and Sumter counties for breakfast and conversation on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. at La Hacienda Country Club, which is located at 1200 Morse Blvd.
Breakfast buffet for $10.00, including coffee, plus tip.
Since this is a buffet, please understand that you will be charged the full price regardless of whether or not you eat.
Reservations are not required.
Dining room seating is at tables rather than booths which makes it easier to mingle and talk
Love DEM Golfers
Love DEM Golfers play a golf scramble on a Villages executive golf course on the 2nd Saturday after our regular monthly meeting. The exact location and tee time are not available until a few days before the event.
The number of golfers will be limited to the first 32 who sign up, so be sure to sign up early. The deadline to sign up is one week before the golf date. After our initial 32 players have signed up, we will keep a waiting/substitute list in case someone has to cancel.
Please check your calendars before you sign up to make sure that you will be able to play on the assigned date. We won’t know what time or where we will be playing until a few days before the event. If our tee time is late in the afternoon, it could interfere with evening plans you might have, so in that case we ask that you wait until the following month to sign up.
The Golf Coordinator for Dems Golf is Sue Hausner. Reservations should be made by emailing Sue at email@example.com. Include your name, phone number and golf ID #.
Last minute cancellations sometimes can’t be helped, but if you have to cancel, please cancel through Sue Hausner only so she can try to find a substitute.
Happy golfing !!
DEMOCRATIC NEIGHBORS ORIENTATION (DNO)
Get to know your Democratic neighbors!
Democrats live in every neighborhood. Because of the conservative tone of The Villages, it is sometimes difficult to talk about Democratic “things” with your neighbors.
Democratic Neighbors Orientation (DNO)
Social events where New-Comers Meet Old-Timers
First Sunday of the month at 1:45 pm in Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
The Democratic Club holds a monthly social event at which Democrats and Independents are able to meet and make friends with their progressive neighbors, and discover the true flavor of the local environment.
The highlight of the afternoon is when the new-comers share their reasons for being Democrats, and how they are adjusting to living in “the bubble”.
Our friendly, enthusiastic club members (old-timers) are there to share their own Villages experiences and offer entertaining advice on being “strangers in a strange land”.
The event also provides an overview of the club’s activities and volunteer opportunities.
Check the upcoming events on the website homepage, for the date of our next DNO.
We look forward to having you there. Please RSVP to Bob Jansen at 352-391-0373.
